On the last day of our Walt Disney World vacation last week, I was pleasantly surprised to find the latest edition of MagicBands in the Magic Kingdom shops. With a removable center “puck”, the bands will now offer even more customization including adding them to lanyards! Here’s our first impressions including a video in front of Cinderella Castle to highlight the new Disney accessories.
As of last Friday, Walt Disney World had two special editions of its latest style MagicBand on the store shelves. The 45th Anniversary band has images of “it’s a small world” and Cinderella Castle. The second band is a salute to the latest Star Wars movie, Rogue One, and is just as cool with images of the movie’s main character.
New MagicBand 2.0 First Impressions
Right off the bat I noticed the larger face on the new MagicBands and how, once streamlined, the shape is definitely rounder than originals. Secondly, when linking the band to my My Disney Experience account, I noticed two small screws that allow the puck to be removed. This allows for addition to other bands and, in the coming months, lanyards.
Secondly, the bands are thinner and more flexible than the originals. There’s still the dark grey addition to the band that can be removed for smaller wrists. It’s Perfect for folks that don’t like extra weight.
Like the older style, I’m still able to link my resort reservation and Advanced Dining Reservations. I can also link theme park tickets and passes, FastPass+ selections, and PhotoPass as well.
Old School or New Style?
Personally, I’m loving the new MagicBands. Having a removable center puck will definitely save me from making Christmas garland from all of my extra bands. I also love the security of the removable center with the addition of the small screws.
