Family Fun at Cedar Point HalloWeekends

HalloWeekends family fun

I, like so many parents, look forward to autumn. Not only is that crisp air a welcome respite from the hot, humid days that Ohio can be known for in summer, but the lovely autumn hues are Mother earth’s one last hurrah before winter begins.
And for some parents (me included!), autumn means one thing- Halloween! My family goes bananas over all things Halloween, including family-friendly theme park celebrations. Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio does a great job of turning itself into a fun celebration by day and a haunted park by night for HalloWeekends

Howl-O-Palooza is Cedar Point’s area for younger visitors that want the fun of Halloween activities without the scariness. This year, an expanded area including pony rides, a pumpkin maze, and a foam pit will let your wee ones discover that seasonal fun. Open on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am-5pm during Cedar Point’s HalloWeekends, there’s even mask-making and pedal tractors!
Cedar Point’s Kiddy Kingdom offers fun in a not-so-scary setting. Trick-or-Treat at 8 stations throughout Kiddy Kingdom provide for safe, friendly fun and give kids a reason to dress up in a costume.

Fun characters at Kiddy Kingdom
Before you enter Kiddy kingdom, make sure you stop at the entrance for a free trick-or-treat bag and meet a few of the silly characters that are stationed throughout the area.
We visited this past weekend these delightful characters were fun and interactive, making the young ones inside at ease.

On Saturday and Sunday afternoons at the Howl-O-Polooza Stage (look for Wicked Twister and you’ll find it easily!), kids 54 inches and under can take part in a costume contest beginning at 2:30pm. There’s some pretty sweet prizes, so if your little one likes to ham it up, make sure you get there in plenty of time for him to strut his stuff.

Monster Midway Invasion Celebration

Will Linus find The Great Pumpkin this year?
Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts Gang are out in their finest Halloween garb and ready for fun during Monster Midway Invasion Celebration.
On Saturdays and Sundays at 5pm during HalloWeekends, the gang, along with tons of other not-so-spooky characters, sing and dance along the Main midway and Monster Midway.
The parade lasts for roughly 20 minutes, so if you have little ones, find a nice spot on the midway and grab a bench for a good view.
While you’re on the Midway, Magical House on Boo Hill is fun not-haunted house for young ones that like silly walkthroughs. It’s always a big hit with families and this year is proving no different.

Regional marching bands and dance troupes also participate in the fun parade, and the top dog, Snoopy, is at the tail end. Get it? I wrote tail end. Now, that’s a hoot!
We loved the parade and discovered it comes at the perfect time of day when  our feet were dying for a good rest.

While your family is walking through the park, don’t forget to check out the fun decorations! Surrounding the rides and all through the midways is Halloween decor Cedar Point style.

Don’t wake him!

This guy comes to life from his deep slumber once in a while and makes kids and adults giggle when he does.

Petting Zoo at Halloweekends

Goats at the petting zoo for HalloWeekends
We live inside of the city limits, so any excuse to pet some farm animals and I’m down.
The farm animals range from baby goats to llamas (okay, technically not your typical farm animal, but still super fun to pet!), and food cups can be purchased for one dollar.
And if you’re a clean freak like I am, there’s plenty of hand sanitizer and washrooms only a few steps away.

Halloweekends runs for eight weekends in September, October, and early November. On saturdays and Sundays, Cedar Point opens at 11am, giving a good six hours before the frightful haunts begin.
Up for some frightful fun? The spooky stuff begins at 6pm on Friday and Saturday nights and will have you looking over your shoulder the whole time.
