Dapper Day at Disney World is a fun opportunity to dress in your finest and stroll around the parks. Last year’s two-day event was received so well that every year is bound to get bigger and better than the last. Last year was also the first time my family and I had the pleasure of partaking in the merriment. So, what is Dapper Day, how can you take part in the park fun, and what does it cost? Here’s how to do Dapper Day at Disney World and what you can expect.

You can thank Justin Jorgensen for the creation of Dapper Day. He fell in love with the idea of looking “dapper” as a kid and, while his friends dressed down at Disneyland, he did the opposite. February 2011 was the first Disneyland Dapper Day and, with around 100 folks participating, popularity has risen each year.

Fast forward to 2017 where there’s now semi-annual events at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World! There’s also a once-a-year event at Disneyland Paris, too. Couples, singles, and families all partake in the fun!

What Are the Dates this Year?

For 2018, Dapper Day dates at Disney World are the following:

Spring 2018: Saturday, April 28th at Magic Kingdom

Sunday, April 29th at Epcot

Fall 2018: Saturday, November 17th (Park to be announced soon)

Sunday, November 18th (Park to be announced soon)

Do I Need to Register? What Does it Cost?

Happily, I’ve got great answers for both! You don’t have to register, just shop looking dapper. as for the cost, it’s admission into the parks. There’s no additional fee. If you have an Annual Pass, you’re good to go as well.

So, what is Dapper Day, how can you take part in the park fun, and what does it cost? Here's how to do Dapper Day at Disney World and what you can expect.

What Should I Wear?

Whatever makes you feel best. My family likes to wear retro styles and everything from Nineteenth Century to the 50’s and 60’s are represented in the parks. I love to browse Amazon for retro-style dresses but Pinup Girl Clothing and Shop Disney have jumped on the bandwagon. Honestly, it comes down to your budget and personal preference. You’ll also find people accessorized to the max with hats, gloves, and even parasols.

As for shoes, I’ve seen everything from stiletto heels to tennis shoes. Again, wear what you’re comfortable with. Keep in mind these events are not for costumes, but people do like to channel their fave Disney character.

What Goes on in the Parks on Dapper Day?

I’m using last year as an example, but WDW has really rallied around the idea. Here’s what you can expect:

Pop-up Apparel Shops – Last year it was inside The Emporium at Magic Kingdom. Even more fun, there was a fashion show!

Special Snacks – We loved the pretty cupcakes that made their way into the park at Magic Kingdom.

Dining Events – Last year there was a fun lunch at Tomorrowland Terrace, box-lunch style. As soon as this year’s is announced, I’ll add it. My suggestion is to arrive early for the dining experience as last year’s was super packed – and super slow to get food.

PhotoPass Ops – At Magic Kingdom, there were two really fun ones: The Purple Wall and with Main Street Vehicles near Cinderella Castle. You’ll also find “family photo” sessions where folks will gather together for photos. Keep an eye on the official Dapper Day website and its Facebook page for announcements!

Is Dapper Day Fun?

Good Lord, yes. As a self-proclaimed girlie girl, I love wearing dresses in the WDW parks any time of year. Give me the excuse to go retro, add victory rolls in my hair, and bright red lipstick and I’m in heaven. It’s also a hoot to mosey around the park and check out what everyone else is wearing.
