Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, isn’t just another dot on the map; it’s a pulsating heartland of speed, history, and the intoxicating scent of high-octane fuel. Nestled amidst the serene beauty of the Kettle Moraine, this charming village transforms into a mecca for racing enthusiasts every season, drawing crowds with its legendary Road America circuit and a heritage that’s as rich and fast-paced as the races themselves.

If you’ve ever felt the rumble of an engine in your chest or the thrill of a car hugging a curve, then you already know—Elkhart Lake isn’t just a destination, it’s an experience that puts you squarely in the fast lane. Here are the top spots to check out when visiting.
The Heart of Racing in Elkhart Lake: Road America
Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, is synonymous with speed, racing, and motorsports, largely thanks to the legendary Road America. Known as “America’s National Park of Speed,” this four-mile, 14-turn road course has captivated racing enthusiasts for decades.

Truly, Road America is the undeniable centerpiece of racing in Elkhart Lake. Its challenging layout, nestled within the picturesque Kettle Moraine, has made it a favorite among drivers and fans alike. Each year, Road America hosts a diverse schedule of high-profile races throughout the year, including the IndyCar Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, and MotoAmerica Superbikes. My favorite of the events, The WeatherTech International Challenge, showcases vintage racing cars speeding along the challenging track.
If spectating isn’t enough, and you own a high-performance car, you can get behind the wheel yourself on RoadAmerica Track Days. If you’ve never driving a racecar and want to try your hand at it, check out the Skip Barber Racing School to learn advanced driving techniques from professional instructors and experience the track for yourself.
Again, my two cents, if I had to pick a favorite way to get onto the track, it would be during one of the Sunset Cruises or Morning Drives. Each offers a more leisurely pace, and you can enjoy your time on the famous Wisconsin simply by driving.
If neither is up your proverbial street, make sure you check out Road America’s 640-acre park-like grounds. Each spot offers an excellent vantage point for viewing races from various turns, including the famous 11th turn, also known as the “Kink.” You can freely roam the course to find your perfect spot. and hang out there during your visit or move about and check out each turn.
