American Small Towns Worth Visiting At Least Once - Carmel-by-the-Sea, California

Carmel-by-the-sea in California is a gorgeous beach town with fairytale architecture that needs to be seen to be believed. It is popular with those who love peace and quiet, writers and artists for instance. One unique feature about this town is that houses don’t receive actual mail through their doors. They have to take a trip to the post office to collect any letters or parcels they receive. There are also no fast food chains or national coffee shops and they wish to stay chain free and are highly against ‘citification’.

If you love visiting the beach while you are on vacation then this will be perfect for you. You can find the white sand beaches that are best known for their sunsets. They also have great surf conditions and are dog friendly.

If the beach isn’t for you then how about the mountains? Telluride in Colorado is located in a box canyon. Telluride offers amazing opportunities to ski, so whether you are a beginner or an expert who loves a challenge, hit the slopes of Telluride. This is an old mining town which was originally called Coumbia, believe it or not it was once the richest mining district in Colorado. So if rich history and skiing are your go to’s for vacations then this old town should definitely be on your list of places to visit.

This might sound strange for a small town, but Afton in Oklahoma is actually one of the places located on the famous Route 66 road trip. Afton is home to the Crosstar Museum which houses a quirky and exuberant collection of cars and trucks. If you love nothing more than water activities while you are on vacation then this place is perfect for you. Just a stone’s throw away from the Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees where you can fish or even go on a jet ski. If you are looking for accommodation nearby then you might want to check out a local RV park.
