Nestled in the rolling hills of Central Florida, Mission Resort + Club in Howey-in-the-Hills is a hidden gem that blends old-world charm with updated luxury. For first-time visitors, this Spanish-style resort offers a peaceful escape surrounded by lush gardens, scenic golf courses, and a tranquil atmosphere that feels worlds away from the bustle of Orlando.
Here’s everything you need to know that makes Mission Resort + Club a must-visit destination—from its elegant lodging and delicious dining to its rejuvenating spa and complimentary amenities.

Arrival and First Impressions
Driving into Howey-in-the-Hills feels like rolling into a storybook. The winding roads lined with oak trees and Spanish moss lead to the grand entrance of Mission Resort, where Mediterranean architecture and red-tiled roofs set a luxurious, yet not at all stuffy, tone. I adored its historic charm, and it’s immediately apparent in its arched walkways, courtyards, and fountains that evoke the ambiance of a Spanish mission.

The check-in process for me was smooth and welcoming. The staff exuded genuine hospitality and offered a quick overview of the property and its amenities. For first-timers, it’s worth taking a few minutes to explore the grounds—every corner reveals a new photo-worthy spot, from the peaceful waters and fountains to the sweeping views of Lake Harris.
Lodging: Comfort Meets Classic Elegance

Mission Resort happily offers a variety of accommodations designed to suit visitors and guests. The rooms and suites are spacious, featuring neutral tones, wooden furnishings, and private balconies or patios overlooking the gardens or golf course.
Many rooms have been recently renovated, blending modern comforts with the resort’s timeless aesthetic. I adored my two-queen room and its golf course view, especially in the early mornings and evenings.
For couples, the Deluxe King Rooms provide a romantic retreat with plush bedding and pretty views of the grounds. Families or groups may prefer the two-bedroom suites, which include separate living areas and kitchenettes. Every room includes complimentary Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and coffee makers, ensuring a comfortable stay.
Dining and Restaurants: A Culinary Experience
One of the highlights of Mission Resort is its exceptional dining scene. The resort features several on-site restaurants, each offering a unique culinary experience that showcases fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

El Conquistador Bar & Restaurant
El Conquistador Bar & Restaurant, on the second floor of the main area, is the resort’s signature fine-dining restaurant and is known for its elegant ambiance and gourmet menu. The dishes combine classic flavors with modern flair—think filet mignon with truffle butter, fresh Florida seafood, and decadent desserts.
If you’re a wine aficionado, the wine list is extensive, featuring both international and local selections. Don’t worry if you’re not; there are plenty of non-alcoholic options as well.
La Hacienda
For a more casual setting, La Hacienda offers breakfast and lunch. Breakfast is a favorite among guests, featuring made-to-order omelets, fresh pastries, seasonal fruit, and traditional Southern favorites. The outdoor terrace is perfect for enjoying a morning coffee while soaking in the serene surroundings.
Grove House Restaurant
Located near the golf course, Grove House (formerly Knickers) is ideal for a relaxed lunch or post-game meal. The menu includes hearty sandwiches, salads, and burgers, along with a full bar. The laid-back atmosphere and panoramic views make it a great spot to unwind after a round of golf or a visit to the spa.
The Legendary Sunday Brunch Buffet

No visit is complete without experiencing the famous Sunday Brunch Buffet. Held in La Hacienda, this lavish spread is a local favorite and draws visitors from across Central Florida. The buffet features carving stations, fresh seafood, made-to-order omelets, waffles, and an impressive dessert table.
The champagne and mimosas flow freely, adding a celebratory touch to the morning. Reservations are highly recommended, as the brunch is often fully booked.
The Spa: A Sanctuary of Relaxation

The Spa at Mission Resort is a true sanctuary for the senses. The moment you step inside, the soothing aroma of essential oils and the calming music set the tone for relaxation. The spa offers a full menu of treatments, including massages, facials, body wraps, and nail services.
Signature treatments like the CBD and Golfer’s Massages, and the Barcelona Organic Signature Facial use fresh ingredients to rejuvenate the body and mind.
Spa guests can also enjoy the relaxation lounge, steam room, and private outdoor courtyard, and I certainly took advantage of it all. For couples, the spa offers romantic side-by-side massages and packages designed for two. Booking in advance is highly recommended, especially on weekends.
Free Amenities and Activities

Mission Resort + Club offers a variety of complimentary amenities that enhance the guest experience. The resort’s outdoor pool is perfect for swimming during the day, while the covered hot tub provides a relaxing soak under the Florida sun. While I didn’t have a chance to use the pool (there was a massive dip in temperatures during my stay!), it’s on my bucket list for the next visit.

Guests can also explore the resort’s scenic walking trails, play tennis or pickleball on the lighted courts, or simply relax in one of the many garden courtyards. Parking and Wi-Fi are free for all guests, and the resort provides shuttle service to nearby attractions upon request; I used it to get back to my room after a visit to the spa.
Golf at Mission Resort + Club

For golf lovers, Mission Resort + Club is a dream destination. The property is home to two championship golf courses—El Campeón and Las Colinas. El Campeón, one of Florida’s oldest courses and created in 1917, is renowned for its rolling hills and challenging layout. Las Colinas offers a more forgiving design with wide fairways and scenic views. Both courses are meticulously maintained and provide an unforgettable golfing experience.
While I’m not a golfer, I truly did enjoy the putting greens and using a golf cart to drive around the paved paths to check out the scenery.
In a Nutshell
Mission Resort + Club in Howey-in-the-Hills is more than just a getaway—it’s an experience that combines history, luxury, and relaxation in one stunning location. From the elegant lodging and world-class dining to the rejuvenating spa and complimentary amenities, every detail is designed to make guests feel pampered and at peace.
