If you love quirky roadside attractions, man, do I have one for you – Dinosaur Land. It’s filled with both antique and modern dinosaurs, and it’s the combination of both that make this the best Virginia roadside attraction. Here’s what you can expect when you visit.

  • Why Is Dinosaur Land the Best Virginia Roadside Attraction?

On a recent visit road trip Shenandoah County, VA, I had a case of déjà vu where I knew I had ever been there before. Have you ever had that on a trip?

Long story short, I passed by a couple of locations near Winchester, Virginia, and knew that I was close to my, hands down, favorite Virginia roadside attraction – Dinosaur Land. Last time I visited, I checked it out with Mr. Locke, then went home to tell my teen daughter about the awesome experience.

This time, she accompanied me and it was so fun seeing it through her eyes. A place where you truly have to see it to believe it, we bought all the shirts, sweatshirts, and coffee mugs which are obscure souvenirs in my neck of the woods, Pittsburgh.

Dinosaur Land is worth visiting at least once – but we’ve been several times!

The Details

Since 1963, Dinosaur Land has opened its doors to folks traveling in White Post, Virginia. Originally called Rebel Corner by owner Joseph Geraci, the name was changed to its current in 1967. A replica dinosaur creator was commissioned to make 5 dinosaurs for the gift shop and the rest is history.

With over 50 years (60 in 2023!) and 50 dinosaur species under its belt, the roadside attraction is a haven for visitors that want to check out both old and new replicas. Currently, 35 of the dinos are original replicas; the other 15 are modern pieces by Rick Cline and are much more scientifically accurate.

Okay, I have to give my two cents about the original dinosaurs. I truly do adore them more than the newer ones. I can tell they were made in a more homemade style and kind of remind me of dinosaur cakes with frosting.

Apart from the giant King Kong statue in the center and the shark at the entrance, you’re not allowed to climb or touch the pieces.

What’s Included in Dinosaur Land Admission?

At the time this post was written, admission is $8 for adults, $6 for children 2-10, both well worth the price. The path is paved for folks with wheelchairs or strollers and it is advised to keep on it. However, we are able to walk up to the creatures and get photos.

There’s also free parking, which is a nice perk.

There’s also a large gift shop that you’re free to browse around in either before or after your visit the exterior. Honestly, even if you don’t want to check out the dinos you can still pop in and shop. Having written that, we cherish our shirts and hoodies, so picking up a few new ones was a high priority.
