If you’re a fan of deli subs, and live in the Pittsburgh area, you’ll definitely want to check out Capriotti’s Pittsburgh – Cranberry. New in our neck of the woods, the family-owned and run business is making waves for both fans of the sandwich shop chain and those that love customized sandwiches. Here’s the scoop on Capriotti’s Pittsburgh – Cranberry and why you need to make a beeline for it right now.

Before we dig into the menu and my favorites, here’s a quick backstory on Capriotti’s. Based in Wilmington, Delaware, the original location was created from a love of good food and honoring family heritage. Fast forward to present day where there are 112 locations to choose from all across the U.S. Capriotti’s has a 47-year old tradition of slow-roasting whole, all-natural turkeys in-house and hand-pulling them every morning. So, yeah, they may be a chain, but they still run their shops like they’re mom-and-pop-style.

For reference, here’s a link to the Capriotti’s locations map.

To keep with the same principles, Capriotti’s Pittsburgh – Cranberry bakes its sandwich rolls fresh everyday and roasts its turkey daily as well. And as a foodie and restaurant reviewer, I have to write that they really do make a difference when it comes to taste. Owners Brian and Merridith Murray (Brian’s from Wilmington so he knows the sandwich shop well and used to go to every Saturday with his family for lunch!) have set up shop in my old stomping grounds of Cranberry Township, north of Pittsburgh proper.

“Capriotti’s was a staple of my childhood and being able to bring a concept I grew up with to my new hometown is very exciting,” said Brian. “Capriotti’s separates itself due to the high-quality products and we hope to bring exceptional customer service as we introduce these award-winning sandwiches to the Cranberry community.” – Brian Murray

Along with drink and freshly-made cookies, there are several standout sandwiches at Capriotti’s. And if I had to name the best of the best, it’s The Bobbi. Think of it as a Thanksgiving dinner on a sandwich, it’s even better than the Holiday Turkey at Earl of Sandwich in Disney Springs, and that’s been my favorite sub-style sandwich for a decade.

As for my husband the carnivore, he tried several sandwiches on the menu and his favorite? The American Wagyu Cheesesteak. Filled to the hilt with tender American waygu beef, he’s such a fan now that he would literally drive up to Cranberry for one and keeps telling us how much he loved it.

As for my second in line, it’s definitely the Impossible Cheesesteak sandwich. As a gal that no longer eats beef or pork (I’m a self-professed “poultry-tarian”), when I do get a craving for meat I love to go the Impossible-brand route and this sandwich did not disappoint. Honestly, if I didn’t talk to owner, Merridith firsthand, I’d have sworn it was real beef. I ordered mine with peppers and the texture was spot on.

Additionally, Capriotti’s does offer salads that are really good as well. I tried the BBQ Turkey with Chipotle Ranch dressing and it was delish.
