If you’re looking for a Hocking Hills luxury cabin, you really need to look no further than this post. Earlier this month, my husband and I had the absolute pleasure of spending an extended weekend at Cherry Ridge Retreat and it was a mini respite like no other. Here’s the scoop on what you can expect when you visit.

Cherry Ridge Retreat, right in the heart of Hocking Hills, OH, is a little piece of heaven on earth. The property is 140 acres of private forested land and each of its 8 cabins has its own private space, so there’s no worry about walking out onto the porch and spying the neighbors next door. It recently became one of the prestigious Select Registry properties, and you know how I adore them. Their standards are so high, I never have to worry about anything.

Personally, I adored this fact as we spent plenty of time going inside and out and it was refreshing to know we were kind of ourselves during our entire stay. The cabins sleep anywhere from 2 to 8 guests, which is ideal for a couple’s getaway or a family celebration.

Every guest on property has access to the Central Pond and Gazebo area. It’s a gorgeous respite to drive (or walk, depending on where your cabin is located) to for fishing (catch and release style using barbless hooks) or for simply sitting and checking out the lovely view.

If you’re bringing an electric car, the property does offer a ChargePoint+ Phase 2 Universal Charging Station at the front office parking area.

Another cool thing you’ll find in each of the cabins is that each is beautifully decorated in its own way, making each of the 8 properties unique. Additionally, the decor is upscale, so no cheap tchotchkes for you.

For the rest of this review, I’ll be focusing on where we stayed, Ravine’s Edge. Having written that, we did have the pleasure of touring a couple of additional properties, the Lakehouse and Whispering Pines, and you can see about about them in our YouTube walkthrough:

Ravine’s Edge Cabin

Full kitchen area in Ravine’s Ridge cabin.

The first thing I noticed when walking into Ravine’s Edge was the massive amount of space and full kitchen – for two people. Yep, there’s a full, and I mean full, kitchen in each cabin. It comes complete with all of the cookware, utensils, and appliances you could want to cook all of your meals, which made it very easy to pack and drive.

Okay, now let’s talk about the bedroom and bath area. Almost open concept, our sleigh-style king bed was amazingly comfortable and I loved the fact that there was a surround sound system through the entire cabin to bluetooth our music. As for the shower, it was my favorite area of the cabin. With a 360-degree glass surround and two large rainfall shower heads, I adored it. Seriously, I want one in my own home now.

Outside, we spent plenty of time in the hot tub because there was a full fireplace and large flatscreen television. I, personally, took a dip in it four or five times during our stay. Due to the December chilly weather, it was refreshing to run back and forth into the cabin.

Now, let’s chat about the artistic glass window in the bathroom area. Made from scratch, it’s gorgeous during the day. At night, however, it’s stunning. There’s a light timer for it so you can leave it on for an hour or two and it will turn off automatically – Check out the 3-minute mark in our walkthrough video earlier in this post for the full view.

When it comes to connectivity, it varies, though. We had really good wifi, so there was no issue with checking our email. However, our phone signal was almost nonexistent, so the cabins provide landline phones with free long distance calling. Our iPhones have the ability to use wifi calling, so once connected to that, we could use both styles of phones.

Hiking at Cherry Ridge Retreat

The property boasts plenty of hiking and walking trails, each of which vary in intensity. I’d love to tell you that I did do some hiking, but I wanted the true feeling of a respite in the cabin, so we stayed in our area.

What’s Around?

Happily, not a ton. The reason for visiting the Hocking Hills area is the fact that it’s away from just about everything. What is around, though, are woodland creatures like deer and squirrels (we even heard coyotes one night!), beautiful outdoor views, and near silence during winter.

The closest place to get gas and food is roughly 20 minutes away from Cherry Ridge, so if you’re planning on staying put like we did, make sure you get groceries and gas near Logan, OH, if you do.

As for the major caves, Cherry Ridge Retreat close to:

Ash Cave – 10 miles (16 minutes)

Old Man’s Cave – 14 miles (24 minutes)

Know Before You Go

When you hit the Hocking Hills area, cell phone service gets really patchy, so make sure you download the map for the area ahead of time so there’s no problem getting in or out.

Additionally, if you have the room in your vehicle, you may want to stop at a larger grocery store as opposed to the smaller ones in the area. You’ll find better prices and more affordable meal that way.
