Seven Reasons Why Teens & Tweens Will LOVE Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World

When it comes to Halloween, my family loves it! We start decorating in early September (yes, our house is already decorated!) and really look forward to all of the family fun that goes along with the colorful holiday.

Halloween time also means an annual trip to Orlando. We really enjoy Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom and begin planning our costumes for the event in the summer.

Here’s the reason for this post. I’ve known so many families that have heard that MNSSHP is maybe too childish or won’t be fun enough for their tweens and teens.

The Kid has, once again, collaborated with me on this post to let all the families with tweens and teens know that Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is perfect for families with children of all ages.  As a 13-year old that has had her share of Disney Halloween parties, I’ve left it to the teen expert in my house to give you fine folks the reasons why it’s the bees knees for older kids and teenagers.

Here’s seven fab reasons why they’ll love it.

Great Excuse to Dress Up

Dressing up for Halloween may be on the fence for a teenager. They really love to score candy and love the whimsy of the holiday, but maybe they feel they’re getting too old for it.

Not at Walt Disney World! Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is the one time every year that older children and teens (and their parents, too!) are encouraged to visit Magic Kingdom in their best costume. On regular park days, younger children may dress up but it’s not encouraged for older kids and adults.

And, please don’t feel compelled to dress up with a Disney theme- the photo above is of The Kid as her favorite gaming character- Chell from Portal 2.

Rare Character Meet and Greets

The Disney villains come out in full force during MNSSHP and The Kid loves meeting the elusive bay guys. In additions to the meanies, The Seven Dwarfs, Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas, and even the usuals dressed in their favorite Halloween costumes (think Winnie the Pooh dressed as a bumble bee!) are hanging in Magic Kingdom.

The lines for the rare meet and greets begin queueing up hours early, though, so if you really want an autograph from them be prepared to wait in line!

Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Special Edition Card

Edit: Sadly, Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom is gone forever, but I’m leaving this one in for posterity.

Have a fan of sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom interactive game in Magic Kingdom? On party nights, head to the Fire Station on Main Street, U.S.A. for a special edition card that’s only given out at MNSSHP.

Awesome Decorations

Magic Kingdom is dressed to the hilt for autumn and with those fun decorations comes additional ambiance during the party. Spooky lighting and fog, along with the dark skies and pretty colors, make for the ultimate scenery.

Haunted Mansion Is Extra Fun

Not only is the haunted Mansion lit with purple and green lights for the Halloween Party, Madame Renata makes an appearance on the front lawn of the mansion grounds to entertain guests while they’re waiting in the 13-minute line on Halloween night:

Also on deck is the ability to have your photo taken with one of the Hitchhiking Ghosts. This party is really the time to purchase Disney’s Memory Maker for its special ability to add in a little pixie dust to your already fun photos:

Be a Kid Again for a Night

Here’s a great reason to attend the party: tweens and teens can act like a kid again! My daughter completely lets go of that whole I’m-a-teen-so-I-have-to-act-all-grown-up pretense when she’s at Walt Disney World and loves to just be her happy, giddy self.

Candy, Candy, Candy!

In the words of Goofy as he rides on his bike in the Boo to You Halloween Parade, there’s plenty of “Candy, candy, candy!” at trick-or-treat stations all over Magic Kingdom. And, if your tween or teen doesn’t really go trick-or-treating anymore because they think they’re too old, this is the perfect excuse to jump in line and score tons of the sweet stuff.
