Summer at Gervasi Vineyard: A Lesson in Relaxation

Living out of a suitcase definitely has it perks (we get to see the country and never tire of our house!) but there are times when all we want to do is relax and enjoy each other’s company, you know? A recent trip to Gervasi Vineyard in Canton, Ohio let us do that and so much more- all with Italian flavor and style.

Yay for gorgeous summer days, especially when we encounter them during our travels. Mr. Locke and I packed our suitcases once again for Gervasi Vineyard and, with far fewer clothes to pack (another big yay for summer!), we jumped in the car, headed an hour northwest, and spent the rest of our time relaxing, walking the vineyards, enjoying meals with Italian flavor and fun, and loving the property’s summer offerings.

A swift check-in at 3pm and we were headed to our Two-Level King Luxury Suite in Villa Portofino. Gervasi has six Villas with four guest suites in each for a total of 24 gorgeous spots to relax and recharge.  Walking through the room door gave us a reason to gape so, with mouths wide open, we explored the suite.

A walk-up bar with mini refrigerator, flat screen tele, and large closet on the left and living area with working fireplace on the right. Super comfy couch and chairs, by the way.

Gervasi Vineyard

Okay, we have seen a ton of bathrooms in our travels, but the ones at Gervasi Vineyard truly stand alone. The floor-to-ceiling marble, flat screen television (there are three total in the Two-Story King Suite), stand-up shower, and separate toilet area made me look for excuses to make trips to visit!

It’s attention to details like the bathroom faucet that let me know just how luxurious our stay was going to be. Each guest suite has that perfect melding of Tuscan Italian design combined with modern amenities.

Next stop? Up the staircase to the king bed area. I felt like a queen in her castle bedroom and the view from the large windows was of the main building where we checked in. With a super comfy bed, we lounged around, watched t.v., and were simply happy to enjoy each other’s company. The geo-thermal cooling/heating throughout the Villas kept us at the perfect temperature (each Guest Suite has independent controls).

Each Villa has a Common Room area for its guests to mingle about. There’s a stocked refrigerator filled with sodas, water, and Italian beverages, and even yogurt for a snack. Those large doors in the photo above? They head to the private Villas sitting area. We enjoyed breakfast on the patio and watched the swans in the lake. There’s a microwave for heating up meals and drinks and an ice machine to share as well.

Mangia!

As we dined at The Bistro during our winter visit, we felt a trip to The Crush House was in order. With a more casual atmosphere that The Bistro, we walked across the parking lot (everywhere at Gervasi is walkable!) and enjoyed a superb dinner.

The restaurant has really good Pasta Bowls and with my love of chicken, I had to try its Lemon Chicken. Just a hint of lemon and a garlic cream sauce, plenty of diced white meat chicken and linguini, tomatoes, and peas (yes, peas. They were perfect.) and I was in culinary heaven. The dish is very affordable,too- $13.

There’s meal options other than pasta as well. Sandwiches, starters, soups, and salads, along with dessert if you have a sweet tooth, make for one affordable menu.

Summer Activities at Gervasi

Gervasi Vineyard

If you did want to walk away from this view, there’s plenty of on-property fun.

We walked the vineyards (the grapes weren’t ripe but still made for gorgeous photos), played Bocci Ball and Corn Hole, sat on the back patio, shopped at The Marketplace for wine and souvenirs, and even watched ambitious gals at their Yoga in the Vineyard session.

Summer is the perfect time of year for walking the property, but if you’re up for a more exhilarating way, the Gervasi offers bicycles to use.

If you’re in the area with your pooch, there’s a fun Pups on the Piazza event on Tuesday afternoons/nights. Feel free to bring your furry baby and hang out by the lake, grab a bite to eat at The Piazza, and enjoy live music and great food.

Breakfast at Gervasi

Gervasi Vineyard breakfast

There’s three options for enjoying breakfast at Gervasi Vineyard: in-suite, in the common area, or on the patio. With warm, summer weather we opted for the last and, with coffee cups in hand, and a breakfast box filled with Italian-style goodies, we dined on egg fritattas, sweet breads house-made pastries, granola, fresh fruit garnish, coffee, yogurt and juice. We watched the swans groom themselves along the lake’s edge, saw its woodland creatures scurry about, and even spied a baby bunny in the bushes. What an enjoyable, relaxing morning! Breakfast is provided complimentary for two guests in each room but if you have additional party members, no worry: breakfast for additional guests can be purchased for $16 a person (plus tax). There’s a couch to sleep on, after all.
