Lately, we’ve been driving into the city at least once a week for local events, dining, and simply enjoying the view. It got me thinking: what are the must do/see/try things at least once in Pittsburgh and why haven’t I written them down? So, this one’s for both you and me: the official Pittsburgh bucket list! From sandwiches filled with fries to views that will make your eyes well up with happy tears, here’s the best of The ‘Burgh in no particular order and why you need to add them to your bucket list.

Headed to the city and only one day to see all the things? Here’s my ultimate one day in Pittsburgh itinerary.

With so many amazing things to do, see, and try in Pittsburgh, how do you narrow it down? Here’s our top 10 Pittsburgh bucket List!

Even if you’re afraid of heights, take one of the inclines (Duquesne or Monongahela)  up to Mount Washington and ride it back down to Station Square.

While you’re up there…

Bring a Tear to your Eye

…with one of the most stunning skyline views ever on  Mount Washington. Really want to bring on the tears? Check it out at night.

Eat French Fries on a Sandwich

What started as an easy way to feed downtown Pittsburgh workers in the early 1930’s,  the Primanti Bros. sandwich has pretty much stayed as is. Stacked with grilled meat, tomato, savory coleslaw and, yes, French Fries, the sandwich is a local fave. The no-frills atmosphere (including deli paper instead of plates) only adds to the delicious fun.

Want the scoop on more amazing places to eat in Pittsburgh? Here’s some that make our Pittsburgh restaurant shortlist.

Pay Homage to a Hometown Hero

Mr. Fred Rogers has been inspiring kids and adults for decades -I’m proof of that. Take a stroll along the Allegheny River on the North Shore and check out Pittsburgh’s tribute to the legend.

Pittsburgh Bucket List: Roll on a River

Surrounded by three rivers, Pittsburgh is even more beautiful by river. The Gateway Clipper Fleet has old-fashioned paddle boat sightseeing cruises to give you a fish-eye view. Want an even closer view (and a chance to drive?) ? Just Ducky Tours is the way to go.

Things to Do in Pittsburgh: Cool Off Near a Fountain

At the tip of Point State Park sits the iconic fountain that both locals and visitors flock to. During the summer, families, couples on date night, and basically any time there’s an event, the fountain is the perfect respite for breezy mist.

Pittsburgh Bucket List: Strip!

The Strip District Wholey's

Take a stroll down three historic streets in The Strip District. During your walk, work up an appetite as the popular eclectic hang is filled with just about every style of food you can imagine – including a local farmer’s market with super affordable prices on fruit and veg. While you’re walking, stop in to Wholey’s and ask the fish mongers to show you the lobsters.

Things to Do in Pittsburgh: Wear Black & Gold Proudly

…by taking in a game. It’s not only a Pittsburgh pastime, but all three major spots teams (Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins) are major contenders.

Pittsburgh Bucket List: Honor Your Nationality

…with a visit to the Nationality Rooms in Oakland. located on the University of Pittsburgh campus, the 30 rooms are actual classrooms for college students, but you can take a self-guided tour for free.

Things to Do in Pittsburgh: Look for “Silence” Everywhere

…by checking out filming spots for “Silence of the Lambs“. You’ll hit spots like Carnegie Museum of Natural History (remember the game of insect checkers?) and Soldiers and Sailors Monument in Oakland.

OK local Pittsburghers, I know there’s so many more places to add so leave me your bucket list Pittsburgh spots in the comment section below!

Want to add to this list? Visit Pittsburgh has even more amazing spots!
