I understand; I have a teen daughter. And, while Walt Disney World is her favorite place on the planet she has outgrown a few things in the parks and at the resorts- splash pads, for one. I’m not above getting soaked on days that we feel like we’re melting but, you know. Teens still want to maintain their coolness while having fun, so we’ve created a list of five super fun (and still cool!) free things for teens at Walt Disney World.
Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Game
There’s three interactive games on this list but the most popular has to be Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom. While it’s fun to play as a family, there are times that my teen wants a little bit on independence in the parks and asks to play on her own. I happily allow her and, along with some guidelines (don’t leave the gaming area, check in if you’re moving to another spot, etc.) off she goes on her merry villian-destroying way.
Here’s the game in a nutshell: collect cards daily at the Fire Station in Magic Kingdom and head from portal to portal throughout the lands to destroy Disney villains that are trying to take over the kingdom. The cards are highly collectible and fans of the game go bananas over special edition party cards. You can collect a new packet of five cards every day you play and you need to open a gaming portal before you can collect. Each game gets more and more difficult so multiple cards may be used to defeat the villains.
- Location: Magic Kingdom
- Sign up: The Fire Dept. on Main Street U.S.A.
- Play Cards: You can receive a free pack of five each day once your play portal is open
- Additions: Sorcerers t-shirts to boost defeat strength, card holder books. Both are totally optional and can be purchased at WDW shops.
- Time Required: 60 minutes or less per game
Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure
- Location: World Showcase in Epcot
- Sign up: Kiosks at Italy and Norway Pavilions, the International Gateway area closest to UK Pavilion, Odyssey Bridge
- Accessories: Up to three F.O.N.E.s (Field Operational Notification Equipment) per playing party.
- Time: 30 to 45 minutes per game
Update: Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure now allows players to use their own smartphones. Sign-up is still the same.
Autographs
Our eldest daughter is now 22-years old, but I specifically remember making a bee line for character autographs when she was a teen. The Kid, even at 14, still loves queueing up to get a photo and autograph from her favorite characters. Have your teen check the Times Guide at each park’s entrance for times and locations that its Disney characters will be meeting and greeting guests so they can hover around the area and get in line quickly, especially if they’re super popular.
A Pirate’s Adventure
If you’ve taken the walkway between Frontierland and Adventureland in Magic Kingdom, you’ve undoubtedly seen the Crow’s Nest sign-up building for A Pirate’s Adventure. Here’s the challenge: Captain Jack Sparrow requires help to raid five treasures that can be found throughout Adventureland- and beat Barbossa to the loot. There’s five different maps and five separate adventures. This game is one of my teen daughter’s favorites and it truly does let you check out spots of Adventureland that you may have missed.
- Location: Adventureland in Magic Kingdom
- Sign up: The Crow’s Nest in Adventureland. The easiest way to find it is to head to the walkway between Frontierland and Adventureland.
- Accessories: A Talisman (special playing card that you’ll receive upon sign-up.) and a Pirate’s Adventure map.
- Time: 20 minutes per game. there’s no time limit on play and games may be stopped and restarted in the same day.
Coca Cola Samples at Club Cool
I know, we try to keep the kids away from soda. But small samples of Coca Cola products from around the world are okay once in a while, in my opinion. There’s sweet to bitter (if you’re not a fan of bitter stay away from The Beverly) and you can sample as many as you like for as long as you’d like. It’s also a great spot for cooling off on hot, humid Orlando days.
