If you’re getting ready to hit the water, you may be thinking,” Can I take my dog on a Disney Cruise and are Disney Cruises pet friendly?” The answer is yes! Of course, there are some stipulations to make the most of your time. Here’s how to do it safely and within the cruise’s rules.

Having to leave your pet at home when you’re going on vacation can be very tough, both for you and for your furry best friend, I totally get it. And when it comes to the pet policy at Disney World and the Disney Parks, the concept is the same: to keep both guests and their pets as safe as possible.

Here are the official details for taking a Disney Cruise with a dog.

Can I Take My Dog on a Disney Cruise? – Disney Cruises and Service Animals

Right now, trained service animals are the only pets permitted to board and be on a Disney Cruise. According to the official rules:

“Trained service animals are welcome in most locations on board Disney Cruise ships. All service animals must remain on a leash and under your control, or that of someone in your travel party, at all times. Further, you will be responsible for the care and feeding of your animal.”

So, that means you’ll need to bring your dog’s food and other necessary items to keep him happy and healthy.

As for the type of trained service animals allowed, trained service dogs and miniature ponies are the only pets permitted.

Can My Service Dog Stay in the Room?

At this time, all service animals must be attended at all times, so that means you or a member of your traveling party, must stay with your pet 24/7.

If you’re planning to go on a shore excursion with your service dog, do your research and find out ahead of time if its permitted to leave the ship, as some may not permitted at port.

Additionally, you’ll need to have all import permits for countries that require special documents. According to official Disney Cruise rules:

“You are responsible for obtaining the import permits from all countries that require those special documents and must have those original documents available at all times. Specific information may be obtained by contacting the United States Department of Agriculture, or the applicable United States consulate, or embassy of each country to determine such country’s policies and obtain the permits needed for each port of call on the sailing itinerary.

Please be aware that obtaining those permits can take weeks or months, and some countries may not allow animals to enter at all.

Copies of completed permits for each port of call must be sent to Disney Cruise Line Special Services prior to the sail date.”

Also, please contact Disney Cruise Special Services well in advance to get all of your proverbial ducks in order to make your boarding process as seamless as possible.

You can also email Disney Cruise Special Services to answer questions you may have.
