When we’re asked to visit Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Pittsburgh, PA, we don’t even think twice before saying yes. And when it involves great food and smooth jazz? I’m already in the car and on my way. Here’s a look at this year’s Phipps Conservatory Jazz in the Garden. Enjoy!
What’s Phipps Conservatory Jazz in the Garden?
In a nutshell, it’s 400 fans gathering together to enjoy a night of smooth jazz and beautiful views. The ticketed event has two options, on the lawn or under the VIP tent, and you can order box lunches for an additional cost. The meals are house-made by the talented staff at Café Phipps and they’re no ordinary box lunches. Mr. Locke and I had the turkey and beef box lunches and I was really impressed.
With a few choices, my pick was the turkey sandwich, orzo salad, and grapes/crackers/cheese. Add an included glass of wine or beer, and I had myself an amazing, summer meal. We were able to eat before the show began, too. Taking a seat under the tent, we sat and listened to Benny and his band, watched the sun set, and had an all-over beautiful visit.
The Benny Benack Band serenaded us with smooth jazz favorites. We listened to songs from Tom Jones, Harry Connick, Jr., Sammy Davis, Jr., and other musical favorites. If there’s one thing I have to write, it’s this: if you’ve never had the pleasure of catching on of their shows, do it. Now.
Phipps Jazz in the Garden Tips
If you want to plan a visit for next year and want to sit in the VIP tent, make sure to lock down tickets early. These tickets sell out first – and pretty fast. Second, if you would like to order a box lunch to enjoy before the show, do that quickly as well. They sell out even faster.
