Why I Make Time to Take Autumn Walks with My Teen

Autumn walk in the park

This post on why I take time to take autumn walks with my teen is sponsored by Acorn Influence  for Nature Valley Biscuits. All opinions are my own! #NatureValley #ad

Holding hands with my KID

As soon as autumn hits, The Kid and I have a longstanding tradition to get out and take in the cooler air. And, while she won’t be a kid for much longer, I treasure our autumn walks in the park. Not only do we get exercise, I get so much more than that. Here’s why leaf peeping is one of my favorite ways to spend time with my teen.

Throwing leaves in the air

Time to Act Like A Kid

When it comes to teens, they’re all about the tech, right? But, give my 15-year old a gorgeous view filled with crunchy leaves to walk on and she’s back to being that little girl I remember.

It’s fun to watch her smile and laugh, run through leaf piles and even ask for my camera to snap a few pretty photos. And it’s those precious moments that I’ll cherish forever.

Undivided Attention

It’s the most curious thing; when we walk together, I get her full attention. And that attention I take full advantage of. I’ll ask her about school, about what she wants to do after high school, and what she’s digging on the internet.

Of course, I have full access to her browsing history, but it’s fun to ask her about funny videos she’s watched or cool art websites she’s digging.

If you have a teen, you know many times they tend to run hot or cold. But, I think it’s the fresh air combined with the ability to unwind that makes my daughter an open book.

Photos for Posterity

Having the ability to snap photos at the touch of a phone button is such a convenience, but having a dedicated time to grab our camera and head to the park is a great time to take photographs of my teen.

I love fall sunlight. Combine that with the colorful leaves in our area and I’ve got the perfect backdrop. Remember, the golden hour (that hour before the sun sets) is ideal for pictures.

Working Up an Appetite

There have been times that our long walks have had to be cut short compliments of a rumbling stomach. It only took a time or two for me to realize that bringing a snack was a good idea. I want to be able to put it in my bag or pocket. I also want it to tide us over until dinner.

Nature Valley Biscuits Coconut Butter

Here’s where my new snack obsession comes in super handy. Have you tried Nature Valley Biscuits? They’re made from tasty ingredients and The Kid really enjoys the flavors. Her fave? Nature Valley Coconut Butter Biscuits.

Two toasted coconut biscuits filled with coconut cream? Yum. And, if coconut isn’t your thing, there’s plenty of other flavors to choose from including Nature Valley Coconut Butter Biscuits and Nature Valley Coconut Butter Biscuits.

They’re easy to find at my local Walmart and the flavors are just the right combination of creamy and crunch.

Looking for ways to get your teen to open up to you? An autumn walk may be exactly what you both need.
