10,000 Reasons to Visit Hocking Hills in Fall

When it comes to unbroken forest, Hocking Hills, Ohio has 10,000 acres of it! There’s cool lodging options including sleeping in a restored caboose near Ash Cave. There’s zipling through forest canopies. Plus, there’s also exploring two of the region’s biggest draws: Ash Cave and Old Man’s Cave.

But, when it’s time to check out the fall foliage, it’s these 10,000 acres of gorgeous forest filled with maple, sassafras, and hickory trees that provide the colorful, picturesque views. Add in some hemlock and pine for pretty pops of green and you’ve got the ideal landscape to ooh and aah over.

Extreme Leaf Peeping in Hocking Hills

I used to think of leaf peeping as a “leisure only” type of activity. Man, was I wrong! They offer what I like to call “Extreme Leaf Peeping”.

What’s the catch?

Nothing, other than the love of outdoor adventure. The Hocking Hills region has been dubbed the “Canopy Capital of the Midwest” for good reason. There’s dozens of tours from  Soaring Cliffs Canopy Tours, a Super Zip, and even an XTreme canopy tour . The latter takes zipliners through a waterfall and into a cave – that’s a bird’s eye view, indeed! If you like to keep on terra firma, there’s a fun Segway tour that will let you off-road with only two wheels.

Eco-Friendly Leaf Peeping in Hocking Hills

If an eco-tour is what you want, it’s High Rock Adventures you need to check out. Its guided eco-tours and heart-pounding rappelling trips will get your blood pumping and up your amazement level. Not your style? No problem.  There’s kayaking, horseback riding, and ATV adventures for every visiting style.
