Remember the whirlwind that was Disney Springs last year? While this year seems to be a bit less massive for the “fifth gate”, there’s still plenty of new things going on. From delicious dining to an aerial makeover, here’s what’s new at Disney Springs in 2017 – and what’s still coming!
When it comes to Disney Springs, there’s constant additions and changes every time I turn around – and that’s a good thing! Last year we saw the addition of a higher-end shopping area, parking garages, and delicious restaurants and this year is looking good for the “fifth gate”. Here’s the scoop on what’s already there and what’s coming to Disney Springs in 2017. On a related note, Walt Disney World is adding a ton of new attractions in 2017 that you may want to check out.
Bye Bye DisneyQuest. Hello NBA Experience!
if you want to check out the interactive experiences at DisneyQuest, you’ve got until July 2, 2017 to do it. On July 3rd the area will close to make way for the NBA Experience, a “one-of-a-kind basketball-themed experience featuring hands-on activities that put guests of all ages right in the middle of NBA game action. There will be immersive NBA video productions and numerous interactive experiences, as well as a restaurant and a retail store.” Thanks, Disney Parks Blog, for the scoop.
Personal Shopping, Disney Style?
Heard of Melanie Pace? Amazon, Jimmy Choo, and Lily Pulitzer have. She’s now taking appointments (at $250 an hour) for a style consult including fashion advising and recommendations, beauty advice, and skincare tips. You’ll also have special access to the retailers at Disney Springs, too.
“Disney Springs Style Session” is what you need to ask for when booking appointments, and if you’re the type that would rather shop with friends than one-on-one, small group experiences can be arranged.
A “Character” Makeover
There’s no doubt that the hot air balloon ride “Characters in Flight” was looking a bit dated compliments of the Disney Springs overhaul. In January, the serene ride received a major theming upgrade to better fit the look and feel of the upscale area. The element of water was definitely the inspiration for the new balloon envelope, and the chic look melds beautifully with its surroundings.
Flights are pretty reasonable at $20 per person (kids 3-8 are $15 each) and may be ridden daily as long as the weather permits. Want to score up to a 50% discount? Fly between 8:30am and 10am and tickets are only $10 a piece!
Since When Have Pigs ever Been Polite?
Since the announcement of The Polite Pig, the sister restaurant of The Ravenous Pig in winter Springs, FL. Opeining Spring 2017, the restaurant will “feature a variety of wood-fired smoked and grilled items as well as an innovative beverage program that serves all drinks on tap, including locally-brewed Cask & Larder beer, wine and cocktails.” (Thanks again, Disney Parks Blog for the scoop!) The Polite Pig will highlight local Florida cuisine with its top chefs.
A Master Sommelier’s Take
If you love California Grill in Disney’s Contemporary Resort, you may have heard of George Miliotes, Master Sommelier for the restaurant. He’s bringing his love for wine to Disney Springs in his latest endeavor, Wine Bar George. Scheduled to open Fall 2017, the 210-seat spot will feature cues from his home estate, small plates to compliment the wines, and a changing seasonal menu. The Bar will offer more than 100 selections of wine by both bottle and single glass and should be hosting special events.
