Why You Should Never Miss Another Cosmopolitan Pittsburgh

There are events we love in Pittsburgh, and then there are events we LOVE. Cosmopolitan Pittsburgh is one of the latter and each year the massive foodie party gets bigger and better (although we really did love last year’s!). Just in case you missed it, or just in case you want to relive the fun, here’s the scoop on Cosmopolitan Pittsburgh 2016 and why you should never miss another one!

Super Cool Theme

Cosmopolitan Pittsburgh August Wilson Center Stage

This year’s theme was all about “Cool” so we all put on our funnest, hippest outfits and headed to the August Wilson Center for the Trust Cool party. It was all about a celebration of just how cool the Pittsburgh art and foodie scenes are and I loved the theme. After 9pm, the stage area came to life with Chocolate Boombox’s DJ Anthony Susan and the stage took on a club vibe with an awesome bonus: we decorated head wear and could have a glitter tattoo seating- now that’s fun!

VIP Tastings

Wigle Whisky

Beginning at 7pm, VIP Tickets were given special access to an upstairs sampling of Pittsburgh’s newest, hippest restaurants and a local fave: Wigle Whisky. The distillery is a staple in the boozy scene and they showcased two creative flavors this year including Absent Minded Absinthe. Add an ice cube to the glass, wait for the liquor to change from clear to cloudy and cool, and sample. If you’ve never tried it and love unusual liquors, this one’s for you.

Josephine's Toast

The VIP tastings really give the opportunity for the local restaurants to try super creative and fun dishes and the Summer Picnic Toast from Josephine’s Toast was one of our favorites. Crunchy toast, baked beans, bbq chicken, and local greens? Perfection.

Cosmopolitan Pittsburgh Apteka

I’d never tried carrot pate, but Apteka‘s Kanapki was so delicious. Carrot pate, radish, cucumber, dill, and carrot flower on soft bread had an amazing texture and lovely, subtle flavor.

Provision Pittsburgh Beef and Broccoli

Chilled Beef and Broccoli from Provision PGH was so incredible it made Mr. Locke go back for more. Chilled beef, wilted broccoli, and topped with edible flower petals was just the right combination of flavors and texture.

Krab Union Station

Flaked Crab from Union Standard (they’re a super new name in Pittsburgh and will be opening soon)? Can’t wait to check out the restaurant!

Cosmopolitan Pittsburgh Soft bolied eggs

Plated Trade had two samplings, but the soft boiled eggs were simply too beautiful to pass up.

Watermelon Gazpacho

Carota Cafe‘s Gazpacho with Feta and cucumber relish was a delicious, light, cool sip and the watermelon cube made the dish perfect for the sweltering night.

Save Room for Dessert!

Cosmopolitan Pittsburgh Byte Me

At exactly 9pm, it was time for a massive party and dessert on the main floor including Byte Me Cupcakes and Bakery’s 80’s throwback cupcakes! Swedish Fish, Whoppers, and Cow Tales topped the bite-size cupcakes and the frostings and cupcakes were addicting.

Cosmopolitan Pittsburgh A519 Chocolate

The last time we had the pleasure of sampling A519‘s handmade chocolates it was at the Blume Honey Water premiere, but this time the company  infused the candies with Wigle Whiskey.

Cosmopolitan Pittsburgh Pittsburgh Popcorn

And of course, THE popcorn company in Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Popcorn, had a massive table filled with delicious flavors including Wisconsin Cheddar.

Cosmopolitan Pittsburgh Colonel EagleBurger's Band

As if all of that food wasn’t enough, there was tons of entertainment including Colonel Eagleburger’s Highstepping Goodtime Band! A big name, I know, but with a band this much fun and this massive, they need it.  A fire eater, along with dirty, gritty, fun tunes, made for the perfect style of live music to start the party off.

A retro arcade by Pinbash, Balkan-infused beats by West Philadelphia Orchestra, Brazilian rhythms at DJ SMI‘s Beleza Party, modern funk by Boulevards, and the sonic movement of slowdanger kept the party going until midnight.

Planning on attending next year? Yeah, I though so. Cosmo Pittsburgh is for folks 21 years of age and older, so score a babysitter now!

Disclosure: We were given complimentary tickets to Cosmopolitan Pittsburgh 2016 for the purpose of this article. All opinions are my own!
