When Disney announced that its new nighttime show, Rivers of Light, would premiere on April 22nd, the buzz was palpable. And then another announcement only a couple of weeks away from the premiere: technical difficulties would postpone the show without an announcement of a new date.
My recent press trip for Awaken Summer offered a chance to check out portions of both Rivers of Light and the Tree of Life Awakens. With both previews, it’s easy to see how Disney’s Animal Kingdom will up the ante on Walt Disney World nighttime fun.
Rivers of Light
Rivers of Life has an underlying theme, as does all of Disney’s Animal Kingdom: protect, conserve, and be aware. Using water as a backdrop, the show favors state of the art lighting concepts, and touching new music. Although I only had a preview, the parts that I was able to watch left me humming the songs in my head and heading to YouTube to watch again and again.
Tree of Life Awakens
Beginning with a deer rousing from sleep, the Tree of Life Awakens has an awesome soundtrack with musical clips from The Lion King, Tarzan, The Jungle Book, and other Disney classics. The show takes Disney’s Animal Kingdom guests on a cross-country trip with other animals that dance, jump, and play all over the Tree of Life’s trunk and the musical selections are perfect in the way that only Disney can do.
Tree of Life Awakens is roughly three minutes long and will take place throughout the night hours that will be extended at Animal Kingdom to include additional shows in Harambe Market, night rides on Kali River Rapids and Expedition Everest, and Dinoland, U.S.A. Animal Kingdom at night will debut on Memorial Day Weekend, but these two show debut dates have not been released.
Are you excited to see both full shows? Please let me know in the comment section which one you’re looking forward to most.
