Need a Reason to Head to First Night Pittsburgh? Here’s 5 Awesome Ones!

This year will be my family’s first time to First Night Pittsburgh. Normally, we snuggle in bed and watch the highlights on the tele but we’re going to be party animals along with the thousands of other families that will be all bundled up and checking out the events.

So, I thought about what it would take to get me out of my comfy bed and pajamas and into warm clothes and head to the Cultural District in Downtown Pittsburgh for six hours on New Year’s Eve. After looking at the First Night Pittsburgh website there was no way I could refuse a fun time, but these five reasons are what I’m really forward to this year.

5. Outdoor Entertainment

How about an ice carving demonstration, live musical acts including The Wailers and Gabby Barrett, Soul Line Dancing, and even Fire Dancing top this year’s First night lineup.

4. First Night Food Trucks

The First Night Food Trucks are back for their third year. They’ll be parking at 9th and Penn Ave. and the lineup includes:

  • BRGR
  • Fox’s Pizza Den
  • Franktuary
  • Mac & Gold
  • Pita Pan
  • Pittsburgh Pierogi Truck

3. Dance

This one I’m really excited about. Indoor (meaning: warm!) dance shows including excerpts from the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater School, Staycee Pearl Dance Project, Unsuk, and even lessons at Arthur Murray Dance School will put everyone in the dancing mood during First Night.

2. Photo Ops

How about a photo with the Pirate Parrot at fifth Avenue Place? If you’re a Penguins fan, Iceburgh will be at First National Bank Family Tent signing autographs, too! I love interacting with popular Pittsburgh mascots, so you know I’ll be waiting in line for a turn to take a selfie with them.

1. Fireworks

Like last year, First night Pittsburgh has TWO sets of fireworks! At 6pm, the Dollar Bank Children’s Fireworks by Zambelli kicks off the fun and Fireworks: Future of Pittsburgh Grand Finale brings the new year in with a bang.
