When there’s any mention of fireworks displays, I’m always the first to rally the family and say, “Let’s Go!” It honestly makes no difference what time of year it is or which holiday is being celebrated, I love ’em.

If you’re a Pittsburgh or Western Pennsylvania native, you’ve undoubtedly heard of PyroFest- America’s largest fireworks festival. Celebrating its fourth year and taking place this year over Memorial Day weekend on May 22nd and 23rd, this year’s festival promises to be the best one yet. What makes it bigger and better for 2015? Here’s five reasons to get you started.

 A New Venue

PyroFest 2015 is calling Cooper’s Lake Campground near Slippery Rock home this year. Why the change? “The new venue offers many exciting opportunities to grow PyroFest into an even bigger event,” said Stephen Vitale, president and CEO of Pyrotechnico, the host of PyroFest.

“The addition of another day and the larger venue that can accommodate more spectators and onsite parking is very appealing to us as we look to make PyroFest an even more spectacular event. The larger space will enable us to add more displays and incorporate additional structures that will result in more breathtaking fireworks entertainment.”

Translation: More room for grander fireworks. Yes!

Bigger and Better Fireworks Displays

From the Opening Noise and Salute Display on Friday to the grand finale world premiere of “Voyage Through Hollywood” by Pyrotechnico on Saturday night,  PyroFest aims to outdo the previous years festivals.

Bigger and better this year? You betcha!

It’s Affordable

General admission passes start at $20 if you purchase your tickets in advance and children under the age of 6 are free! You know what that means: pile the kids in the car, pack your portable lawn chairs and blankets and celebrate Memorial Day Weekend with a bang.

Sorry, I just had to.

if you’re really looking for a VIP experience on your visit, PyroFest is offering just that- a VIP experience ticket. The admission price includes primo seating, hors d’oeuvres and a buffet dinner on Saturday night, and complimentary non-alcoholic beverages as well as beer and wine. Talk about rock star treatment!

Live Music and Entertainment

If you’re from anywhere near The “Burgh, you know B.E. Taylor. He, along with Ryan Fennell and Johnny Halo and the Angels, will be making live appearances on throughout the festival.

I can’t think of anything more Pittsburgh-ish than B.E.Taylor and fireworks on the same day.

And if Great Fireworks Displays and Music Isn’t Enough

This weekend in addition to amazing fireworks displays and popular bands and musicians, PyroFest will have food, craft, and merchandise vendors hanging out and waiting to take your order.

PNC Kid’s Zone is presented by the PA Leadership Charter School this year and will be featuring games, face painting, inflatable slides, and a rock climbing wall. How about a mechanical bull and Ferris wheel? Those are at the Kid’s Zone this year as well.

I know where I’ll be this weekend! If you’re heading to PyroFest, please feel free to stop and say hello. If you can’t make it this year but want to follow along with the fun, #PYROFEST is the hashtag to look for on Instagram.

Happy Memorial Day and let’s watch some fireworks! Be safe!

Spread the love
