There were times in my travels, whether it’s heading to the grocery store or heading out for a week long road trip, that I thought, I’d love to know what’s going on at the house.
Right now.
And then I thought, do I really want to invest in a thousand dollar home security system and a monthly monitoring fee? Yes, it will keep my home safe and alert me when it needs to, but is the effort and cost a value for my family?
Is there a cost-effective, easy to install alternative?
There is now.
The Panasonic KX-HN6002 Home Surveillance System is an obvious choice. It sets up in 10 minutes, the cameras can be moved from location to location with ease, and I have an app on my iPhone that allows me to log into the cameras at any time to check on the goings on inside and outside of my home.
And…there’s no monthly monitoring fee. Zip. Zero. Zilch. Is there a catch? Nope.
So what makes this system perfect for my family? Read on, folks.

Ease of Installation
When my Panasonic home Security System was delivered to me in a small box, I thought there would be an additional box just for wires and plugs. There wasn’t. The unit is very space-friendly. Bonus point.
This is the main unit with two cameras and the Hub. You simply plus the hub and cameras in to a regular electrical outlet and get ready for setup with the Panasonic app. The cameras can be mounted on walls via the screws that come with it, but for my house, I love moving the cameras around so the stands work just fine. Extra bonus points for that feature.
The Cameras have a 40-foot range and use night vision technology for their surveillance. Great for outdoor installation.

Configuring the Panasonic Home Security System
Head to the App Store on your Apple device (it works on iPods, iPads, and iPhones!) and download the app labeled Home Network System. Easy peasy- and free!
The initial setup literally takes you step by easy step. If I can do it, anyone can do it.
You’ll need to set a login password and choose names for the locations of your two cameras. The list of choices are obvious for any home or apartment.
Once the setup is complete, you’re ready to start watching the cameras and tweaking the positions of them. It was fun (and once again, easy) to do as the app shows a live feed so you can simply watch the feed and adjust accordingly. I was able to sync three Apple devices to the same Hub and cameras, too.
Here’s a glimpse of what my app looks like with the cameras placed in my living room and front porch. With my iPhone I’m able to login and adjust the settings and even talk to my teen daughter or scare the cats. I’m sick and twisted, I know. But watching the cats look around for me is a hoot.
The system’s app has a Settings section where you can arm the system to warn you of movement, lets you record the feed with the provided SD card, or can even alert you with a telephone call if there’s suspicious activity or a drastic temperature change. The device must be hooked up to your land line telephone to do so.
The back of the Hub. With a press of a button and a downloaded app for the system, we were installed and ready in under 10 minutes.
